Best family-friendly activities in Teton Valley, Idaho

If you’re thinking about moving your family to Teton Valley, Idaho and wonder “what fun activities are there to do in Victor and Driggs for families with kids?” we can definitely help you out. We don’t just work here, we play here, and love all of the family-friendly activities available all year long.

Sure, there’s the world-famous Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks nearby and great for day trips, but there are also many hidden gems right here in our neighborhoods that will entertain kids and parents too.

If you’re looking for outdoor activities to enjoy during warmer months there’s hiking, biking, horseback riding, float trips, fly-fishing, and four-wheeling, just to name a few. In the winter, there’s skiing, fat-biking, snowmobiling and cross-country skiing. Not to mention sledding and snowman-building.

More ideas to add to your calendar for family-friendly fun in Teton Valley should include one or more of our valley’s famous festivals and unique events. Here are a few to check out:

  • “Music on Main” is a free concert series held every Thursday evening beginning in June with songs, dancing, food trucks, all set in the center of downtown Victor.
  • The Greater Yellowstone Sand Crane Festival, held in late September, celebrates the migration of Sandhill Cranes through Teton Valley. The festival includes wildlife tours, workshops, live storytelling, guided painting, and a final celebration with music, dance, food, and an art fair.
  • The Teton Valley Hot-air Balloon Rally is an event that draws people from around the world. Now in its 42nd year, the event features several mornings of group hot air balloon launches from the Teton County Fairgrounds in Driggs, ID over the July 4th weekend.
  • If you’re here in the winter, you have to visit Driggs to see Snowscapes, the annual snow-sculpting competition. National and regional artists compete to create intricate sculptures around a year theme. The week-long event features daily demos as large blocks of snow are transformed into a public art display that celebrates one of our most abundant local winter resources – snow!

Finally, be sure to sneak in some educational fun, like visiting our museums and learning from experts. The Teton Geo Center, located in Driggs and with free admission, is filled with exhibits related to the Teton Valley. You’ll learn about the history of the region, the wildlife we enjoy year-round, current news like how avalanche dogs work, and even pose next to a full-size bear! If your kids need to get out some energy, you can also pop into the adjacent Teton Rock Gym, an indoor rock-climbing facility with over 3,000 square feet of climbing inside, trained staff on sight, and youth programs year-round.

Another great spot is the Warbirds Airplane Museum, also free, and an educational venue that is part of the Teton Aviation Center at the Driggs Airport. Inside you’ll see a collection of vintage planes and information that will thrill history buffs and aviation enthusiasts. If you time it right and visit in the afternoon, you can then take your whole family to the attached restaurant Forage Bistro. In warm weather ask to sit outside on the terrace where you will have panoramic views of the Teton mountain range while the kids watch private planes arrive and depart as you all enjoy your meal.
